Community engagement and participation in water sanitation and hygiene (WASH) research activities.

Early childhood practitioners in partnership with Early Inspiration (NPO) have participated in WASH research activities aimed at enhancing young children’s intellectual development at the early stages on knowledge, attitudes and safe WASH practices. The WASH project research design helps to enhance understanding on the transmission pattern, prevention and control of neglected tropical diseases (NTD) such as Schistosomiasis, soil transmitted helminths to mention a few.  This could be achieved by adopting ‘training the trainers’ strategy.  More than 180 practitioners and caregivers have been trained via participation in the WASH projects.  Several Bachelor degree students and postgraduate students are involved in WASH and NTD projects.
